The Samiti’s Study of Sister Nivedita

Margaret Noble, Sister Nivedita

Since early 2016, our Samiti has focused on Sister Nivedita and her contributions to the education of girls and women, to India as a whole, and to further Swami Vivekananda's message of Vedanta for the West. The year 2017 was her 150th birthday anniversary.

We have conducted Study Circles on the writings of Sister Nivedita at the Vedanta Society in Sacramento. To date, we have explored the following books: An Indian Study of Love and Death,The Master as I Saw Him, and Notes of Some Wanderings with Swami Vivekananda.

Pravrajika Vivekaprana, a senior sannyasini of the Sri Sarada Math, India, presented "The Guru-Disciple Relationship between Swami Vivekananda and Margaret Noble"(Sister Nivedita). This inspiring talk was given last fall, 2016 at the Unitarian Church in Oakland at which Swamiji spoke in March, 1900.
