Earth Day

Many ancient cultures experience Mother Earth as a living organism. She has been called Gaia, after the Greek Earth Goddess. In the United States, Senator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day on April 22, 1970. It was preceded by a national conservation tour by President John F. Kennedy in September 1963 and began to gain momentum in support of the Earth. It has become an international grassroots movement to celebrate and heal Mother Earth in the face of climate change.
